Walmart is the latest DVD distributor to hammer a nail into the coffin of HD-DVD. The world’s largest retailer has decided to back only high definition DVDs. The store plans to phase out support for Toshiba’s HD-DVD format by June of this year.
Earlier this week, Netflix disclosed that they plan to discontinue support for Toshiba’s HD-DVD format.
I would suspect that Target, Best Buy and other retailers will announce similar plans very soon.
