The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Toshiba is expected to discontinue its HD DVD format sometime in the next few weeks.
This move follows the trail of abadonement HD-DVD has been dealt after a number of major studios and retail shops have decided to support Sony’s Blu-Ray exclusively.
No official decision has been made yet - but Toshiba must accept the obvious. Without the support of film studioes, retail outlets and online movie rental shops (not to mention consumer support), there’s no future for their format.
Expect to see a ton of HD-DVD hardware and software on eBay in the coming weeks and an official announcement from Universal Studioes to switch to Blu-Ray.
