NBC has already begun plans to bring Saturday Night Live back on air should the WGA strike come to a conclusion this week.

Though most late night shows returned to air early January, SNL was NBC’s only late show to stay dark. The Saturday night comedy sketch show relies heavily on writers, much like any other scripted show.

Rick Ludwin, head of late-night entertainment at NBC, said, “It’s been a long dry spell without ‘Saturday Night Live’ on the air… They’ve been sitting on the sidelines watching all this happening in politics and the primaries. ‘SNL’ thrives during an election year and they can’t wait to get back on.”

As of now, no guest-stars have been scheduled to appear on SNL.

UPDATE: SNL will return on February 23rd and alumnus (and 30 Rock star) Tina Fey will host.
