Garth Brooks will take the stage tonight at the Staples Center in a benefit concert for the Southern California 2008 Fire Intervention Relief Effort (F.I.R.E.).

Proceeds from the concert will benefit victims of last year’s Southern California wildfires and firefighters. The retired musician said, “”I’m from Oklahoma… I know a lot about grass fires. I know a lot about wind and fire. I’ve never, ever seen wind and fire like I saw on the television.”

Though the 45 year old artist retired in 2001, he’s still as active as ever in charity. The artist said, “We’re getting ready to now drop off the face of the earth musically. Charity-wise, it never stops.”

Brooks’ music remains a part of the American culture. His compilation set, entitled “The Ultimate Hits,” was released last November and has gone platinum five times.

The first hour of the charity concert will air on CBS and viewers are asked to call to make donations to F.I.R.E. during that time.
