Film ceremonies like the Academy Awards and Golden Globes aren’t the only awards show that face scribe wrath.
The Grammys are likely to be the next casualty on the WGA picket list. Though the WGA recently received a request from the Recording Academy asking for a side deal, the WGA had already issued a statement saying that any such request was “unlikely to be granted.”
Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow said, “the Recording Academy remains hopeful that there will be a quick and positive response — Let me reiterate our desire to bring this matter to a positive resolution working with the WGA.”
It is likely that the WGA will put pressure on SAG actors to not break picket lines for CBS’ Feb. 10 show. They would also ask singers-turned SAG actors like Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé Knowles to boycott as a sign of good-faith support.
Portnow stated, “And to slightly alter a famous saying in our world, ‘The Show will go on.’ We will take whatever action is necessary to ensure that a program so vital to our industry, artists, charitable beneficiaries, and the great city of Los Angeles is held as planned. Accordingly, all preparations by th Academy for our milestone 50th Annual Grammy Awards remain in full-swing.”
