This week is once again light on DC Comics and heavy on Messiah Complex. Although, it’s really only one title per week from the X-Men Messiah Complex series, it’s by far the one story arc you need to read. So if you’re running low on extra cash, skip the Spider-Man Brand New Day and catch up on Messiah Complex.
I’m officially boycotting Countdown in any shape or size. There are only fifteen issues left of the main Countdown to Final Crisis anyway, so until there’s a real need I’ll just browse the pages to get the gist.
DC COMICS
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #17
There’s one thing about Justice League of America that I can’t get enough of: consistency. That’s the one thing about this title that keeps me buying from month to month. Dwayne McDuffie returns and delivers a very special back-up story exploring what’s wrong with Vixen’s powers. And when her condition worsens, it leads to a new arc and major change for the Leaguer!
Written by Dwayne McDuffie and Alan Burnett; Art by Ed Benes, Jon Boy Meyer and Sandra Hope; Cover by Ethan Van Sciver.
ROBIN #170
During the Ra’s Al Ghul Resurrection story line, ‘Robin’ picked up the momentum he lost during the past year. Following Robin’s drama with Dodge was a definite bore, but I’m hoping for some rejuvenation to the title.
In Robin #170, the boy wonder comes home to Gotham to find there’s a new girl in town, wearing a color he can’t ignore. The new vigilante calls herself Violet, and she steals from the rich to keep for herself…and Robin’s going to find out that’s not all she’s playing for. Plus, the return of an old friend with something to hide!
Written by Chuck Dixon; Art by Chris Batista; Cover by Freddie E. Williams II
MARVEL COMICS
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #547
Brand New Day continues in Amazing Spider-Man #547. I’m tempted to add Spider-Man to my hate list along with DC’s Countdown after this year’s marriage fiasco.
NEW WARRIORS #8
I’m not sure where the writers are going with New Warriors, but I’m still on board for the ride. Now that we know who Night Thrasher is, and confirmed that Dwayne Taylor is dead, there’s not much mystery left in the New Warriors. Hopefully the title will pick up momentum soon, else I’ll say goodbye to the Warriors.
NEW X-MEN #46
Ok. The best for last. Chapter 12 of Messiah Complex is here. There’s not much to say except that this issue is a MUST READ. Professor X and Cable are on the same side. So the showdown is on.
The X-Men vs. The Marauders vs. X-Force vs. The Acolytes vs. New X-Men vs. Predator X. Will the victor get the spoils and claim the baby? Whatever the outcome, the future of mutantkind begins here!
Nuff Said!
