Blood Drips in Hollywood - Studios Kill Writers Contracts

Four major studios have decided to raise the stakes against striking WGA writers.

The Los Angeles Times reports that 20th Century Fox Television, CBS Paramount Network Television, NBC Universal and Warner Bros. have killed development and production agreements with several writers. The report said that approximately 65 contracts have been terminated since Friday.

Pilot season typically kicks off in January, but the pool of new scripts for drama and comedy is shallow. This is not just bad news for networks and writers, but actors with plans to hit the audition market hard this year will find themselves out of luck.

One writer/producer, Barbara Hall (Judging Amy, Joan of Arcadia), told the times, “I didn’t see it coming… I am not entirely sure what their strategy is, all I know was that I was a casualty of it.”

If you weren’t worried before, then brace yourself. Current shows may see an early end, while new shows may never see the light of day.

I’m sorry, but i can’t feel sorry for them. They make well over 6 figures and just for signing a deal with the networks they’ve got half a million in their back pocket!?!!

Please, these cry babies are stupid and deserve to be laid off. I’m sure there are several writers coming out of college who can do just as good a job.
