Marlon Wayans Joins the Cast of 'GI Joe'

Ut oh. If you’re a fan of GI Joe and are looking forward to the upcoming August 2009 Live action movie, please brace yourself: I have bad news.

Marlon Wayans has been cast to play GI Joe infiltration agent Ripcord in the movie according to Variety.

Now don’t get me wrong - I like to laugh just as much as the next man, but Wayans has a track record for making any movie he stars in completely ludicrous. From Little Man, to The Ladykillers, to White Chicks, his brand of humor has been way too far on the slapstick side to be considered tasteful.

His casting definitely suggests that the tone of this film will not be a serious one. I’m betting that it resembles the tone of Transformers - slightly serious, but not afraid to go ‘pop culture LOL’ on viewers. If I had it my way, they’d go for the darker approach like Christoper Nolan did in Batman Begins.

Anyway, I’m really rooting for this to be a good film (or at the very least, a good blockbuster). Hopefully the lack of frequent sidekick (and brother) Shawn will make Marlon take this role a little bit more serious. But I’m not betting on it.
