So, it was bound to happen. We hoped that Marvel wouldn’t do this, but hey the book is called Captain America after all.
Ok, what am I yammering about? Captain America is coming back to Marvel. Well not Steve Rogers at least. But, in Captain America issue #34, one of six figures will don the mantle of Captain America.
The new Captain will have a shiny new costume, and will pack heat. Yes, you won’t see this Captain throwing around his Mighty Shield, but instead he will shoot some mighty bullets. Marvel is leaving us guessing as to who he will be. Hmmm, why can’t Captain America be a she? Anyway, as you can see from the promo picture below, the new Captain America will be either (left to right, top to bottom) Iron Man, U.S. Agent, the Winter Soldier (Bucky), Red Skull, Hawkeye, or Union Jack (Joseph Chapman).
Buzzfocus is betting on Winter Soldier. It would bite BIG TIME, if we followed Winter Soldier for the past several months, only to get shafted and have to see Hawkeye, or worse U.S. Agent as the new Captain America. I can’t even fathom Marvel trying to create an elaborate setup for Red Skull becoming Captain. But, hey at one point there was a Maximum Clonage saga and I didn’t think that could ever happen either.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #34 will be written by Ed Brubaker and penned by Steve Epting with Alex Ross providing the cover. It goes on sale Jan. 23, 2008.

It will probably be the Red Skull. I don’t remember how the story arc went, but I think when he came back he had some of Steve Rogers’ DNA in him, like a clone.
it better be winter soldier
It’s a fairly safe bet, since last month, he gave his conditions to Tony and the were both granted.
However, there could still be a skuffle or two among the ranks to see if people accept him.
We were very suspicous of the Red Skull wanting a new body for his consciousness, and trying to clone one from Steve’s DNA earlier… after all, where is the Sharon Carter pregnancy going to go if not for this? So, I e xpect we’ll get a Steve Rogers in a rejuvinated body at some point, but how we get there remains to be seen over the next several years…
