If you’ve been searching madly for a Wii, and have been the unlucky person to always arrive at every store just minutes after the elusive Wii has sold out, then there may be a new opportunity on the horizon.

Although not nearly the ideal gift, Nintendo has unveiled a new plan that will allow Wii shoopers to purchase a raincheck on Dec. 20 or 21 for the Nintendo Wii. The raincheck will guarantee delivery of the Wii before the end of January.

Though this is not the ideal gift to wrap and put under your Christmas tree, it does have its advantages over an empty stocking or a print-out I.O.U.

Of course the raincheck won’t be that easy to get. You only have Thursday Dec. 20 and Friday Dec 21 to stake your claim on one. And you can’t get a raincheck anywhere. They will only be available at Gamestop and you’ll have to put down the full cost of the Wii.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said, “We understand and sympathize with the frustration felt by consumers… a shortfall benefits no one.”
