Hollywood offered members of the WGA a new deal which would give scribes a piece of the Internet media pie. Guild members would receive millions of additional dollars for show created for the Internet.
Heads of the Writers Guild of America, did not immediately accept the offer. Instead, they called for a break in negotiations until Dec. 4. In the meantime, writers will continue to strike on Friday and Monday.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers issued a statement saying, “The entire value of the New Economic Partnership will deliver more than $130 million in additional compensation above and beyond the more than $1.3 billion writers already receive each year.” The statement went on to say, “That’s a little over a 3 percent increase in writer earnings each year, while company revenues are projected to grow at a rate of 10 percent… We are falling behind.”
The guild said the proposal “amounts to a massive rollback.” Their plan would cost producers $151 million over three years.
