Donald Trump’s latest attempt to revive the now jaded Apprentice franchise is by stocking the cast chock full of celebrities. In this case, however, celebrity is a very loosely defined term.
“Celebrity Apprentice” comes to NBC on January 3rd, when the network will no doubt be panting for life if the Writer’s Guild Strike continues. In the show, Mr. Trump will be corralling some moderately top-of-mind celebrity names.
From “The Sopranos” fame, actor Vincent Pastore will be vying for the job. Also on board is actor Stephen Baldwin and Kiss musician, Gene Simmons. The “but, of course” selection goes to Omarosa from the show’s first season, obviously chosen for her ability to annoy just about anyone.
Other “celebrity” cast members include country music star Trace Adkins, Playboy Playmate Tiffany Fallon, Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Nadia Comaneci, heavyweight boxing champ Lennox Lewis, Olympic softball gold medalist Jennie Finch, “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan and UFC fighter Tito Ortiz.
I predict the show will do well in its first few weeks, mainly due to the writers strike and the show’s inherent “Celebrity Fit Club” type of appeal. But expect it to drop from viewer’s minds once the good shows come back to air.
