The production team for the latest Batman movie, 2008’s The Dark Knight, came under fire for asking Hong Kong residents to turn on their lights all night for a week. The goal is to better show off the city’s skyline in the production of the movie.
Enviromentalists consider this move atrocious as Hong Kong is a city already plagued by pollution. It would waste a ton of energy considering that the production team could easily obtain the same effects using special effects.
While I am anxiously awaiting the movie and want it to be the best that it can be, I don’t believe entertainment should come before environmental protection. Hopefully, TDK’s production team will make the right decision.
