We were treated to 2 explosive hours of Prison Break last night in which strangely, and simultaneously, a whole lot happened and a whole lot of nothing happened. There was a few gruesome deaths, a botched escape attempt, and a car crash, but the end result was that Michael was still in jail, Susan still has LJ, and we’re still clueless as to what the Company’s role in all of this is. One thing is for sure though, all continuity errors and plotholes aside, the show manages to stay very entertaining.
Here are last nights’ interesting developments:
Michael and Whistler’s escape plan was foiled: The two are delayed in their courtyard escape because Sammy returned to his cell for some extra gambling money. We spend the entire 2 hours thinking an escape is imminent, but it’s back to square one at the end.
Susan (aka Gretchen) is a former soldier: She gives LJ a bizarre story about how she handled being in a hostage situation herself. Strangely she did it without pants on (to show scars from an apparent rape). The moral was for him to not be a hero and try to escape.
Mahone Catches a Break: His former FBI cohorts arrive in Panama to save him, ready to trade a reduced sentence of 4 years for his testimony against The Company. Mahone wants the trial to happen immediately so that he doesn’t testify while in withdrawal from the new drugs he’s been taking at Sona. Apparently, junkies aren’t very credible when declaring the world’s misdeeds in court.
Lincoln comes clean to Michael about Sara’s Death: “She’s dead,” he tells Michael in a surprisingly powerful scene from both actors. Michael is obviously devastated, but channels his grief towards the escape plan so that they can still save LJ.
Sucre is down with the cause: Writers don’t have much reason to keep this fan favorite around other than to be Robin to Lincoln’s Batman. Sucre helps Lincoln catch Susan and friends as they try to escape with LJ. Lincoln shoots one of the guards twice, but is forced to back down once another holds LJ at gunpoint.
Susan found a discount on body bags: At the end, Lincoln sees that Susan and friends dropped several body bags on the ground, indubitably for Lincoln, Michael and LJ once the transfer of Whistler had gone through.
Lechero has a name and he also wants out: We find out that Lechero got his nickname from killing a milkman (in Spanish, “lechero”) and that his real name is Norman St. John. When he finally realizes that Sona is spinning out of his control, he tells Michael that he’s going with them when they break out of the prison.
Susan and Whistler are working together: I knew something was fishy about Whistler and we come to find at the end of the episode that the he and Susan (whom he calls Gretchen) are working together (in some way). It’s not apparent what Whistler’s role is, but one is to assume he knows more about Scofield and Burrows than he lets on.
Next week looks to be an awesome episode where it appears the escape goes down, Mahone testifies, and Michael’s tattoo makes a guest appearance.
