Coming to DVD this week is Sicko, another shock-mentary from the mind of director Michael Moore. The film ventures, in hilarious fashion, to bring several burning truths about the American health care crisis to light. Moore’s story is simple; the plight of the average American in their pursuit of health care is a tragic story that needs fixing.
Sicko does a really good job of driving the point home that America really is sick and greedy HMOs and other self-interested parties have an agenda that doesn’t consider the middle-class man a priority. While the documentary does border on hyperbole to extend its points (i.e. use Cuba as the picture perfect model of an ideal health care providing country), it does make one seriously question why the U.S. medical-industry is so flawed.
Expect the movie to provide its opinion on how the system got to the disparaging state that it’s in today as well as real-life horror stories about people’s experience with health-insurance. Moore’s coup de grace is a comparison of the US system to that of countries like the aforementioned Cuba, France, Canada and England. The underlying question that Moore indubitably asks is “If other countries can do health care well, why can’t America?”
The DVD itself is worth the price of admission and its cover hints at what’s inside: people the system has deemed unimportant that have died in the hospital waiting room from… waiting.

another great documentary from Moore. It’s not intended to solve teh problem, but bring it to our active consciousness.
Sorry, but his movies always tell just one side of the story. I didn’t see this in theaters and am not inclined to buy this propoganda on video.
