In the latest episode of Smallville, “Lara,” Kara goes on a one woman man hunt for the stolen crystal from her ship. The journey leads her to Washington DC, where Agent Carter of the Department of Domestic Security is holding the crystal.
Before Kara gets to the crystal, Lex shows up and puts the squeeze on Agent Carter to get more information on the alien spaceship.
Kara has learned just a little too much about human lifestyle and uses her feminine wiles to persuasively coerce a member of Domestic Security to reveal the location of the stolen crystal. She tries to recover the object, but learns that the crystal has already been moved.
Chloe stops by the ISIS foundation, a center built to help those infected by meteor poisoning. She learns that Lana is really the brains behind ISIS.
Meanwhile, Clark travels to Washington DC to find Kara. His cousin punches Clark into a wall, and says “We may be cousins, but I don’t have to like you.”
Kara believes that Lex may have the crystal and goes to the mansion to search his home. Agent Carter is there waiting for her and captures Kara. Oh yea, he shoots Luthor with a tranquilizer first.
Carter takes Kara back to the government facility and injects her with a meteor rock based truth serum. In her flashback we learn that Lara El, Clark’s birth mother, traveled to earth before Clark was born to learn about her son’s future home. Kara follows her there while her father Zor El is busy in Kandor (part of Krypton).
Just before Agent Carter digs deeper into Kara’s past, Clark comes in to save the day. While he tries to save Kara, he is exposed to the memory she had of her first visit to Earth.
Three things we learn from Kara’s flashback is that Kara gave Clark his his Kryptonian name Kal-El. Also, we were exposed to the Zor El’s dark side when he kicks in the door on the Kent farm looking for Kara. Zor El tells Kara to wait outside, so that he can make a pass at his brother’s wife. That’s right, Zor El has the hots for Clark’s mom Lara, even though she’s married to his brother.
Zor El tries to convince Lara to stay with him on Earth so that they could rule the planet together. His jealousy towards his brother is what lead Zor El to try to Kill Jor El. “Jor El’s blood runs to cold to be a father… My brother stole you from me he, took away my life. He will never feel the way I do about you.”
Jor El also took strands of Lara’s hair and stored it in the crystal Kara is looking for. When Kara confronted Zor El, he erases her memory about her first time on Earth. What is it about DC characters and mind wipes?
Clark comes out of Kara’s memory in time to see that she has flatlined. He delivers a jackhammer blow to Kara’s chest to jump start her heart.
Agent Carter tries to take down Clark, but guess who shows up to save the day? Lionel Luthor, in the lab, with the revolver.
Clark and Kara share a heart to heart on Zor El. Kara realizes it’s time to give up her obsession with finding the crystal and focus on friends. In this case, it’s Jimmy Olsen.
It’s the season of heart to hearts. Lionel confronts Lex about his obsession with Kara. The Buzzfocus.com Smallville moment of the Week goes to an interaction with Lionel and Lex.
“I’m sure you can fool the people around you. You can probably fool yourself. But not me, (scoff) you can never fool me.”
NEWSFLASH - Jimmy Olsen gets all the women. When Kara goes to aplogize to Jimmy, she kisses him and asks him out to lunch. Jimmy, who’s about to have one of the best rebounds ever (Kara’s not just beautiful, she’s KRYPTONIAN TOO!!!), runs into Chloe on his way out. Chloe see’s that she is about to lose Jimmy forever and asks him to lunch. Jimmy promptly shuts her down for Ms. House of El.
Finally, we learned that Clark in fact rescued the crystal before Kara was even there. Looks like Clark can be sneaky too.
**POSSIBLE SPOILER ** One of Lex’s people tells Lex that he is holding an evolving metal that’s based in kryptonite, meaning it’s alive. This could mean that Smallville may get a taste of Metallo.
Next week on Smallville, Lana gets Clark’s powers and plans to take down Lex. Smallville airs every Thursday on the CW.
