Warner Bros. has given the green light to Greg Berlanti, creator of “Everwood,” to direct and co-write the upcoming Green Lantern feature film. Or, in this case you might say he was given the green ring.
Berlanti, who will be writing the script alongside Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, is no stranger to comics. He states, “To me, this was on the last great comic book movie that hasn’t been made… It was a comic book with a real mythology that you would see in a lot of the space operas and the sci-fi books. The best part about it, anybody can be become one of the Green Lanterns because anyone can end up with that ring.”
About Green Lantern:
Although Sector 2814 of space, where Earth just happens to be located, has had many Green Lanterns in the past, this story will center around its most famous protector Hal Jordan. Hal was a test pilot when he found a dying alien named Abin Sur, Space Sector 2814’s former protector. Abin Sur’s power ring was given to Hal because Jordan was someone who could “overcome great fear.”
Other Earth Green Lanterns include Alan Scott (Golden Age), Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart. All Lanters work under the leadership of the “Guardians,” a group of tiny blue men who live on Oa and fancy themselves the immortal protectors of the universe.
Green Lanterns must recite a mantra to regain their power once their rings’ energy is depleted:
“In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil’s might,
beware my power.. Green Lantern’s light!”
Until recently, Lanterns were weak against the color yellow. After a recent incounter with Parallex, the yellow incarnation of fear, they no longer had the weakness.
Donald De Line will produce the Green Lantern film.
