Wolverine Origin Movie on Weapon X Well the Wolverine Origin movie is officially underway with the title “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” The film will be directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi) and written by David Benioff (The Kite Runner). Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.

The plan is to tell the story of Wolverine’s days in the Weapon X program. The film will feature a young William Stryker, Sabretooth, and host of other mutants.

There is a lot of possibility for failure with this movie. Wolverine’s origin has been so convoluted over the decades that it’s hard to decide which piece to focus on. The movie will reportedly exist in the same world as the current line of X movies, which is not necessarily a good thing.

One - this may limit the Logan’s backstory, especially since Yuriko Oyama aka Lady Deathstrike was in X2. When Logan met Deathstrike in X2 there was no familiarity between the two. But, many died hard Wolverine fans know that Yoriko and Logan had an intense relationship.

A more compelling story may be to include Silver Samurai. Wolverine had a relationship with his half-sister Mariko Yashida which caused turmoil for Silver Samurai when he sought leadership of the Yashida Clan.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” will hit theaters May 1, 2009.

I as a fan can’t wait for this weapon x movie to come out since they are going to show more x men that should have been in the x3 movie. I think the only thing that’s going to be crapy about the movie is that it is going to follow the movies that are already out. What I think is they should go completly a way from there hollywood jimbo jamble and actully follow what is in the comic books. It would do everyone justice and it would show evryone that watches movies that the film industry hasn’t sold out compltly and that they also have some orginality.

I’m all about Wolverine. We all knew this was coming but hearing the official announcement is AWESOME! I wonder how many origin stories they will do and how deept hey will delve with Wolverine. Will Silver Fox be mentioned at all? Will they stick to the true story or Hollywoodize it? Oh the questions that dance in my noggin’!!

The fact that this will take place in the world of the X movies is cause for alarm but I love Wolverine soooo.. I’ll just dump my fanboyness and enjoy this as an alternate universe where anything can happen. Okay.. Psylocke and Wolverine get married. GG. =oD
