The Office, Episode 5 - Local AdThe Office returned to its 30 minute format this week and it sure made for a seemingly funnier episode. We start episode, entitled “Local Ad,” discovering that Dunder-Mifflin is buying TV ad space in local markets in order to air commercials promoting the company’s new website. On top of that, the company is sending a creative team to film part of the commercial, which Michael takes as a signal to channel his inner film-maker. Realizing that the creative team only wants to give his branch 3 seconds of air time (with nothing but hand waving), he fires them and tells corporate he’s going to do the commercial himself.

Elsewhere in the Scranton branch, Andy is looking to Dwight for advice on how to score faster with Angela. This saddens Dwight as he realizes Angela is moving on.

Michael begins to recruit people from the branch to help put the commercial together. He enlists Oscar to do costume design, Kelly for makeup and Phyllis to corral a local celebrity. Darryl puts together a catchy tune for the commercial, which Michael dismisses because he wants it to be a rap. Pam also gets in on the action, volunteering to come up with a logo and animation for the commercial.

Later on, Andy brags to Dwight that he has finally “hooked up” with Angela, stating that they have begun necking…literally. He tells Dwight that Angela moans “Oh D” while they were together, explaining that the “D” referred to the second syllable in his name. Dwight obviously believes that his former girlfriend is referring to him.

Michael later sends in the final cut of his commercial to corporate, who rejects it and approves their original cut. The Scranton staff later assemble at a local bar in order to watch Michael’s cut. Everyone is visually impressed with the final product and Michael finds some cheer in the fact that his staff appreciated his work.
