John Legend, 5 time Grammy Award winning recording artist, is back in Africa promoting his “Show Me” awareness campaign.
The singer first became aware of the relief effort in Africa after he read “The End of Poverty,” a book by Columbia University professor Jeffrey D. Sachs. “What I loved about the book is that it appealed to both my practical and compassionate sides. It also convinced me of that extreme poverty could be eradicated in our lifetime by a surprisingly realistic amount of money.
After reading “The End of Poverty,” Legend embarked on a trip to Ghana. His “Show Me” song eloquently describes the suffering and emotional impact the trip had on Legend.
As part of the campaign, Legend will perform in Ghana this coming Saturday Oct. 27 , in an event dubbed the Soul of Africa concert. The event like the “Show Me” campaign will benefit the relief efforts in Africa. The concert will help victims of the floods in North Ghana which also guinea worm disease - a result of the flood.
This is not the first benefit concert Legend has participated in. In July, Legend performed at the London “Live Earth” concert for the environment with other big name musicians.
John Legend’s two prior albums, “Get Lifted” and “Once Again” both went platinum.
