In November, Ra’s Al Ghul will be returning to the pages of Batman comics. Ra’s, one of Batman’s greatest villains and antagonist in the “Batman Begins” film, was killed in the 2004 story arc “Batman: Death and the Maidens.”
In “Batman: Death and the Maidens,” Al Ghul’s first daughter Nyssa killed Ra’s by stabbing him through the heart. Though Ra’s al Ghul has been killed and resurrected before, through the use of his infamous Lazarus Pits, in “Death and the Maidens,” Batman oversaw the cremation of Al Ghul’s body. The hope being that without his body, Ra’s could never return. But, in the comic world dead only lasts for so long unless you’re Ben Parker – the only major comic book character to stay dead now that both Bucky and Jason Todd are back.
Talia, Ra’s Al Ghul’s second daughter and one of Batman’s many estranged lovers, has taken on a more prominent role. It was revealed that Talia mothered Batman’s son Damian, a psychopathic kid who beats up Robin in order to take his rightful place at his father’s side.
The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul begins in November and features new Batman artist Tony Daniel. The prelude will be Batman # 670.
