Throughout 7 seasons of Smallville, we’ve seen just about every actor who ever played a major role in the Superman mythos make their way to our favorite town in Kansas. Before his untimely passing, Christopher Reeve (Superman Movies I-IV) appeared as Dr. Virgil Swann and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane in Superman Movies I-IV) appeared as Bridgette Crosby.
In episode 4 “The Cure,” Dean Cane, who played Superman in the broadcast series “Lois & Clark, makes a special guest appearance as Dr. Knox.
When a former “meteor freak” shows up at the Talon cured, Chloe begins to wonder if there is salvation from her meteor infection. Her curiosity leads her to Dr. Knox, a man in the employment of Lex Luthor who has discovered a way to cure meteor freaks. One caveat, they lose their memory as part of the surgery.
Chloe decides to undergo the procedure. What’s a little brain loss anyway when you can lose “freak” status with your boyfriend? Sucks for Chloe; she doesn’t realize that Knox is really chopping up test subjects and using their meteor infected organs to revitalize his comatose lover.
Lex discovers the doctor is killing some of the patients and confronts Knox with six bullets to the chest. Surprise; Knox is immortal and shakes off the bullet wounds with ease. He reveals to Lex that he’s been around throughout the centuries. The character of Dr. Knox is reminiscent of Vandal Savage of DC Comics. Savage was a caveman from 50,000 BC who gained the power of immortality, strength and intelligence by absorbing a strange meteor.
Clark shows up to save Chloe, but the immortal Knox refuses to give up. In his anger, Knox severes his love’s life support causing her to die.
Chloe makes it home alive. But, things aren’t going so well at home. She catches Jimmy enjoyng a “romantic” chinese food dinner with Kara while watching some restored video footage. Her inability to tell Jimmy the truth about her “freak” status leads to a somber scene between the two. Jimmy cries and calls off their relationship. Why she had to play Clark’s tortured unbearable secret card is up in the air. Really, being a meteor freak in Smallville is almost a given. Being an alien; well… not so much.

Tension rises in the House of El when Clark’s Martian confidant shows up on the Kent ranch. The Martian warns Clark to be weary of his cousin Kara. It seems that her father Zor-El tried to kill off brother Jor-El. Kara tells Clark not to trust “Red Eyes,” the Martian who dragged off her father in the middle of the night.
Kara asks Clark, “Who’re you going to believe Clark; you’re family or this Martian Manhunter?” So, they’ve finally made it official: Red Eyes is the Martian Manhunter. When Clark hesitates on his reply, Kara flies out the window. “I guess this family reunion is over.”
As for Clark’s girlfriend, our friend Lang Lang has transformed into Lana Lies. She tells Clark that the $10 million Lex claims she stole was really part of a marriage settlement. Nope, she stole the funds. Although, getting duped into marrying Lex Luthor should be worth a few more million. Lana uses the money to fund Room 618, a surveilance facility she operates to keep a close watch on Lex.
Here’s hoping that Dean Cane returns, and is officially Vandal Savage. Smallville has seen several official heroes from the Justice League including Green Arrow, Aquaman, the Flash, Cyborg and the Martian Manhunter. Isn’t it about time to get some official villains? Zod and Braniac had their moments, but it’s time for the Injustice League to show off its ugly face!

He still isn’t flying…
