Chuck Episode 4 Recap : Chuck vs. the WookieEvery week “Chuck” raises the bar on comedic spy humor. In “Chuck vs. the Wookie,” Chuck goes on his second official field mission. And, of course just like in episode 3, “Chuck vs. the Tango,” this mission involves Chuck working with another beautiful girl.

This time Chuck must rescue a diamond, used to fund terrorist operations, from a mansion in Malibu. Unfortunately, that’s not the most difficult part about this mission.

Chuck must choose between trusting the woman he knows, Sarah, and the woman who’s honest. Careena, another beautiful government vixen who knows how to throw down, exposes Sarah’s lies to Chuck. Chuck learns that Sarah used to date his arch-nemesis Bryce, the man who stole his girl and got Chuck kicked out of Stanford senior year. Casting the seed of doubt in our little Nerd Herd friend’s head, causes Chuck to hand over the diamond to the wrong person. What is it about nerdy pseudo-spies with cute quirks that land the girl?

Midway through episode 4, “Chuck vs. the Wookie,” I was reminded of the 1985 film “Spies Like Us,” with Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. It seems that over two decades later, the blend of humor with incompetence in the spy world still works. Twice during the episode, Careena dressed up in a ninja outfit reminiscent of the outfit Sarah wore when she first tried to steal Chuck’s computer in episode 1.

But, the humor doesn’t stop at female ninjas. Great Nerd Herd quotes, help to round out each episode. When Careena, approaches Morgan under the pretense of a love interest, one of his fellow Nerd Herders suggests he may be in for some “female friction action.” That’s nerd talk for sex.

I’m sure the guys out there enjoyed the blatant Baywatch-esque dolly shots of Kareena running along the beach in bikini in slow motion.

In the end, Chuck’s good guy attitude launches him on a daring rescue mission to save Sarah from the terrorists. He convinces Careena to help him, and together they save the diamond and rescue the girl.

Alas, Chuck has yet to get any real romantic action going with Sarah. We all know that Chuck has a thing for Sarah, but we still can’t tell if Sarah feels anything in return. Each episode there is a slight hint of a spark. Both Chuck’s sister Ellie and Careena see Sarah’s repressed affection for Chuck. I’m doubtful the writers will take this relationship to the next level. Well, at least not until the season finale.

Tune in every Monday at 8pm EST for Chuck on NBC.
