Smallville Season 7 Episode 3 Recap : FierceWe’re back to meteor freaks on Smallville. This week the meteor spectacles were three beauty queens with the power to control different aspects of the weather; one of whom died a quick death at the frosty hands of her supposed friend.

Hey, if you think about it, without meteor freaks who would Clark fight? Gorilla Grod? Doomsday (who by the way may is rumored to be in the next Superman movie -more on that later)? Maybe, Kal-el can fight Mister Mxyzptlk, the Parasite, or Darkseid? In the end, Lex is just a master strategist. Unless he suits up in his kryptonite battle suit, I’m pretty sure he’s not taking on the Man of Steel.

In “Fierce,” Clark fights the one battle he never thought he’d have to face - raising a teenage girl. His cousin, now attempting to fully engross herself in Smallville flannel shirt life has taken the name of Kara Kent and reluctantly tries to adapt to a below-the-radar human life.

Taking a page out of Pa Kent’s guide to raising a Kryptonian child on Earth, Clark tries to shelter Kara from being noticed in the public eye. Unfortunately, Kara has other plans, one of which includes entering the Smallville beauty pagent.

Two faces make their way back to the “Smallville” foray: nerdy photographer Jimmy Olsen and Smallville hussy Lana Lang. Sorry for berating Ms. Lang, but first she likes the captain of the football team, then Clark, then Lex, and back to Clark. Come on. Seriously, get a hobby.

Lana comes back to the Kent farm to apologize to Clark for faking her death and marrying Lex. The ever gullible farm-boy quickly embraces her with open arms.

Meanwhile, back at the Daily Planet, Lois Lane is off to New York well on her way to becoming a hot shot reporter. Her cousin Chloe on the other hand is still in the trenches. When boyfriend Jimmy Olsen takes a photograph of a beauty queen dead by frost, the new Daily Planet editor finally takes an interest in Chloe, sending Jimmy and her to Smallville to report.

Jimmy, ever the nosy photographer with a great eye that continually lands him in sticky situations, gets frozen by one of the two remaining meteor freak vixens. Luckily, Kara, who has taken interest in the quirky photographer, saves Jimmy in time. Too bad for Kara though, queen-frost catches “Ms. Last Woman of the House of El” ripping the door off of Jimmy’s car to save him.

weather_freaks.jpgThe two weather freaks decide to use this knowledge against Ms. Krypton to involve her a plot to steal gold. Kara realizes that there’s not only gold in the pirate’s booty, but a Kryptonian artifact and agrees to join them. When she double crosses them, the weather girls set Kara up to get arrested. Take that “Ms. Last Woman of the House of El.” Clark tries to stop them, but wind-girl is too quick and sends of gust of rock and meteor into Clark’s chest. Luckily, Kara breaks out of prison against Clark’s orders and saves her older cousin (who at one point was her younger cousin). She delivers a Guile Street Fighter II style flash kick to take down the frost-freak, which may well have been the worst display of special effects ever used on Smallville.

And, what of Lex? He stages one last confrontation against his estranged wife hoping to win her back. the ever duplicitous Luthor commends Lana on discreetly robbing him of $10 million.

A few signs of forshadowing on Smallville. By the end, Kara wears a light blue blouse with a red top over it, much like Clark’s red jacket symbolizing the Superman colors.

The Kryptonian artifact was said to be some sort of SOS from a Kryptonian who was on Earth 100 years prior. Who could it be? Maybe someone from Kandor or another incarnation of Braniac?

Jimmy says, “It’s open season on meteor freaks.” Uh oh, guess he still doesn’t know that his girlfriend is one of them. Plus, Kara’s taken an interest in Jimmy. Can you say third wheel?

Lana says she wants to grow old with Clark. Too bad she hasn’t had a lesson on Kryptonian physiology.

And, finally Lex confronts Kara stating he’s been saved two times before, and in each case the savior was from the Kent farm. The Luthor knows she pulled the the top off his car to save him from drowning despite her denials. He says to Kara, “Are you a savior or are you a warning.” My guess is it’s warning. Once she finds that crystal, all hell will break loose on Earth as she executes her father Zor El’s plans.

Lana is screwed up. Honestly, who fakes their own death to get rid of a crazy billionaire ex husband?

Lets go easy on her Oct 17th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Lana’s ok, her character has just been forced into stupidity as following the cliche damsel in distress routine.
