Episode 3 of NBC’s Heroes was more exposition than action. Season 1 started off with two plot lines: the threat of Sylar and the question of who are these people with extraordinary abilities.

So far, season 2 is more ambiguous, primarily because we have the trail end of plot lines from season 1 coupled with a few new ones. Mohinder and Mr. Bennet have joined forces on a crusade to take down the company. There’s a mysterious enemy that’s killing off everyone involved in the formation of the Company. And, then there’s the disease that is mysteriously affecting people with powers. Finally, we’re left wondering why the heck is Hiro in feudal Japan with Takezo Kensei.

Heroes Episode 3 Recap : Kindred SpiritsIn “Kindred Spirits,” three favorites made their way back to Heroes: Sylar, Niki Sanders, and Micah. Sylar wakes up on the beach next to Candice, the company employee with the power of illusion. She saved Sylar from the wound inflicted by Hiro’s sword at the end of season 1. She works under the guise of Michelle to nurse Sylar back from injury. Unfortunately, Sylar is still a villain at heart and could care less about her noble gesture. Powerless, due to his wounds, he uses brute force to kill Candice. Despite examining her brain, Sylar is unable to take her power.

With DL dead, Niki drops Micah off with his grandmother, DL’s mother. If Heroes maintains its pattern, its likely that Micah’s grandmother also has powers. We learn that Niki is sick and has turned to the company for help in finding a cure. In Godfather fashion, the Company lets Niki know that one day she will be called upon to return the favor.

As for Takezo Kensei, Hiro has finally got Kensei on the path of righteousness. Kensei has a power much like Claire’s. This is the second power that has reoccurred on Heroes. Claire’s new high school friend West has the power of flight, just like Nathan Petrelli.

bennett.jpgOne startling revolation did occur in “Kindred Spirits.” We learned that Isaac painted a portrait of Mr. Bennet’s death. Last season, Claire’s death was the future that needed to be averted. “Save the cheerleader save the world.” It’s doubtful whether Bennet’s life has as much importance as Claire, but presumably he’ll be doing anything in his power to not die.

As for Peter, he’s going through his own journey of self discovery. He still has no recollection of his past, and quite frankly he doesn’t know if he wants to. He’s joined up with a group of criminals and helps them to rob a sports book. Peter’s also found a new love interest. So, why return?

Tune into Heroes every Monday at 9pm EST on NBC.

we don’t know if Candice is dead or not. She could’ve used her powers to make Sylar believe he killed her. Remember, he didn’t have her powers after she supposedly died.
