So far season 7 of Smallville seems to be taking a plunge into the darker side of the Clark Kent drama. And, this tone is much appreciated. The season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and ambitions seasons of Smallville - with Lana playing dead, Lionel Luthor missing, and Lex on the verge of becoming the criminal mastermind we all know him to be.
In episode 2, Clark has a chance encounter with his cousin Kara, after he and Lois Lane stumble onto Kara’s abandoned spaceship. Kara (Laura Vandervoort), aka Supergirl, unknowingly knocks out her cousin and Lois to protect the craft. Kara is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother and Clark’s uncle. On Krypton, Kara was about 16 when Zor-El sent her to Earth, while Clark was just a baby. Unfortunately, her ship landed in the ocean and she has been stuck in suspended animation the whole time Clark has been growing up. So, now the older cousin, has become the younger more immature cousin.
But, that’s not the only cousin vs. cousin drama in this small town in Kansas. Lois’ innate spirit for journalism is causing friction between her and cousin Chloe. A new editor at the Daily Planet has taken interest in Lane’s passion to uncover the truth about “other-life.” Lane, who currently works for the Inquisitor, Smallville’s tabloid magazine, sees this as the opportunity she’s been looking for to finally prove her worth. And, the Daily Planet’s new editor thinks this rivalry will be a great chance to see if Chloe can rekindle her journalistic passion. Problem here is Chloe’s interest in reporting extraterrestrial activity died when she began protecting Clark’s secret.
Kara’s ship was stolen by the government, and then destroyed when Kara stopped it from going nuclear. Unfortunately, the crystal that lay within the ship has gone missing. It contains all the information about Zor-El’s plan for Kara on Earth. Since Zor-El and Jor-El never got along, one starts to wonder if putting this crystal back in Kara’s hands will bode well for the future Superman. Probably not. Most likely, Kara and Clark will have to go to blows at least one more time. Clark mentions Kara to Jor-El back at the Fortress of Solitude, and Jor-El forshadows this possible battle.
On the Lex and Lana saga. Lex has been cleared of all charges. Big surprise - nope. And, now he’s discovered Lana’s alive. He travels to China and tells Lana that she is free to come back to Smallville and he will not hold a vendetta against her. That’s good, because most people would much rather see Lex versus the Justice League than Lex vs. drama.
Still no report yet on where Lionel Luthor is. One Buzzfocus reader suggested that a member of project Cadmus may have taken Lionel. Any other ideas? And, on another note, does anyone think Zod and Braniac are still dead? The Bag Man thinks that this season would be the perfect chance to bring them back in an all out showdown with the Justice League.
Oh, and the steel bracelets Kara was wearing had the House of El symbol on them. So, the Bag Man concedes defeat in that they were a easter egg forshadowing Wonder Woman. But, still the bracelets just don’t make sense. Why, use them at all when bracelets are so much a part of the Wonder Woman mythos? Your guess is as good as mines.
Anyway, tune in for next week’s episode of Smallville, entitled “Fierce.” Hopefully, Smallville will maintain the dark tone and excitement throughout the season.

lol - Clark’s too narrow minded to realize he need’s to fly to save the rest of the world.
He’s only saving or serving Smallville and Metropolis!!! What about Chicago and Lusaka (in Africa)??? We need him to fly!… Fly! Fly! Fly!
You, me and the rest of the Smallville loving world
Hey
You know Clark?
Still hasn’t flown..
Pissin me off…!!
The new editor at the Daily Planet is really putting the pressure on Chloe to go back to her old ways. And, it was her old ways that persistently drove her to slowly uncover Clark’s secret. She’s almost completely shunned her past lifestyle at the Torch. And, now that she knows she’s a “meteor freak” - said in the nicest possible way, cause she’s a fav character- she’s even less driven to publicize meteor/alien related incidents.
One premonition is that Chloe will die at some point. Anyone who learns Clark’s secret, that isn’t JLA, dies.
As for Pete, its doubtful he’s coming back. Though over the past 5 years he grew to be an integral part of the Clark Kent comic mythos.
Doesn’t sound like I missed out on much though.
I miss the old Chloe, she has almost completely lost her spunk. GrRr the pressures of hiding the fact your best friend is an alien. I hope she doesn’t go Pete on us. Do you think he will come back by the way? I fear he is already too far gone.
Duude I totally was lookin for some wonder woman action. But kara’s still HOT!!!
