Sue Grafton Speaks on Courage and the Inspiration Behind First NovelSue Grafton, author of the Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries, recently wrote an essay on the inspiration behind her first novel. In it, she recounts the long and arduous journey leading up to her current success.

In the essay, Grafton starts by saying:

I wrote my first novel when I was twenty-two years old. That fledgling effort took no courage at all because at that age I was not only fearless, but I knew everything. Nobody had ever told me that writing and failure (and rejection and humiliation) so often went hand-in-hand. By then, I’d composed my fair share of bad poetry and I’d written perhaps as many as two short stories so of course I was qualified to tackle just about anything.

Her journey takes us through the seven novels she wrote prior to “A Is For Alibi.”

Her latest novel “T is for Trespass,” part of the Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries, will hit bookshelves Dec 4, 2007.
