In last night’s episode of Prison Break entitled “Call Waiting,” the show returned to its roots: Time pressured antics designed to make one vicariously feel like their walking in Michael Scofield’s steps.
There were a few developments last night worth noting:
- Sucre is badly in need of money
- Mahone is starting to become unraveled without access to drugs. He also hears that his court date one year away
- T-Bag is making enemies in Lechero’s camp
- Whistler is a fisherman that has information The Company deems important
With Whistler discovered, Michael shifts his focus to an escape. But he can’t think of a prison break until he hears Sara’s voice. Speaking of Sara, it was rather distracting to see a body double serving the former Fox River doctor in place of the absent Sarah Waynes Callies. Even more so, it was equally frustrating to see Lincoln Burrows try his hand at sleuth work. I just don’t buy that he smarts to outwit The Company. His work on the outside is reminiscent of Veronica and Nick’s in season 1; you just don’t get the sense that any of it is going to have any effect on helping Michael get out of prison.
Desperate to speak to Sara, Michael discovers that Lechero is the only one with access to a cell phone. All out of favors from the Sona chief, Michael enlists the help of none other than T-Bag, to get him access to the wireless device. T-Bag is able to snag the phone while Lechero goes for a haircut and Michael is able to sneak a call out to Sarah. During their conversation, she relays hints about where she and LJ are being held. Michael then delivers the info to Lincoln, who begins his search.
Lincoln is able to clumsily arrive at LJ and Sarah’s location. I found it quite funny that he didn’t enter the holding house without a weapon of any kind. I know you’re “Linc the Sink” and all, but come on man, did you really expect to do any damage with your bare hands? Anyway, the captors manage to escape and Susan is not thrilled at Lincoln’s attempted coup. She leaves Lincoln a “reminder” to not mess around with her anymore; a mysterious box that apparently has some blood seeping out the bottom. The episode ends with a cliffhanger being the contents of this box.
So far, this season feels incredibly linear: the mystery of The Company isn’t as compelling as it was in Season 1, or even Season 2. The real meat will be the manner in which Michael escapes and who he inevitably has to take with him. The punishment for failure this time appears to be certain death, so there really isn’t any room for mistakes.
Tune in next week to see what’s inside the box!
