Chris Rock on Everybody Hates ChrisThe CW network’s comedic gem, Everybody Hates Chris, returned Monday night for its third season. Things are slightly different as Chris himself, played Tyler James Williams, is apparently growing up and attending high school. Seeing him mature as the show progresses is reminiscent of Kevin Arnold on the Wonder years. The good thing about Chris’ being taller and having a deeper voice is that it gives writers mroe stories to work with in order to keep the show fresh.

This episode marks the first time Chris Rock has appears in the show he created. After Chris has a horrible performance on a skill assessment exam, he’s sent to the school’s guidance counselor, Mr. Abbott (played by Rock). Mr. Abbott, although full of tough love, wants to help give Chris some direction. It’s quite charming to see Rock and Williams interact with each other and the on screen moments provide for some hilarious exchanges.

Chris begins to reflect on what he actually wants to do with his life and asks other people how they chose. Of course, he can’t find anyone that has a story worthy of his following, but his mother does want him to go to college.

Back at school, Mr. Abbott doesn’t agree with the idea of him thinking about college right now and recommends remedial classes (something that Chris would find terribly embarrassing). Of course, Chris’ mother Rochelle meets with Mr. Abbott and he provides his realistic advice that her son should have some idea of what he wants to do before wasting time and money in college.  She somewhat takes it and tells Chris that she leaves things up for him to decide with what he wants to do with his life.

I’m glad the show is back; Season 3 looks like it will be more fun and laughs from our favorite TV family from Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
