Disney’s “The Game Plan,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson brought in an estimated $22.7 million dollars this weekend. The family oriented movie, about a football player who meets his daughter for the first time, beat “The Kingdom” starring Jaime Fox and Jennifer Garner.
“The Kingdom” opened at 2,793 venues and earned approx. $17.7 million. “Resident Evil: Extinction” came in at third place with $8 million, while “Good Luck Chuck” took fourth place with $6.3 million.
Chuck Viane, president of Walt Disney Pictures Distribution, said “It always feels terrific when you over-deliver on industry expectations.” Typically, it is more difficult to forecast sales for movies targetting children and parents than teenagers and adults.
