One of the shows I’ve been dying to see return is NBC’s “The Office.” Season 4 begins with Michael’s first mishap: hitting Meredith in the parking lot with his car. Couple this with the death of Angela’s cat and the idiotic boss thinks that his office is cursed.
The big Season Three cliffhanger was the status of Jim and Pam after her asked her out on a date. We see in last night’s premiere that, even though they’re hiding it from their co-workers, they are in fact dating and things seem to be going quite well. Pam dresses different now and actually lets her hair down. She even has confidence now to stick up for herself around the office. It’s been 3 long seasons for fans to see this moment, but the two actually seem to make a good couple. Oh, if you’re wondering, Jim’s old flame, Karen, couldn’t take the breakup and left the company.
The former “temp” Ryan, is now working for corporate and his new title seems to be going to his head. It was actually quite funny to see him as Michael’s boss now and rest assured that some hilarious moments are going to come out of that new relationship dynamic.
Upon visiting Meredith in the hospital, Michael learns that she has been given rabies shots. He then conjures up a charity walk for a cure for rabies (unbeknownst that there’s already a cure for the disease).
All in all, it wasn’t the greatest/funniest episode, but it was a decent start to what I hope is another stellar season. Now that the “will they or won’t they” dynamic between Jim and Pam is over, writers have a challenge ahead of them to keep that angle of the show interesting. I’m sure we’ll see breakups and reconciliations and maybe even an awkward encounter with Pam’s former fiance, Roy.
It looks like another fun season of The Office and I’m sure glad the show is back.
