Smallville Season Premiere Recap: BizarroSmallville’s premiere episode answsered many of the questions left open at the close of the last season. Season 6 was all about Clark’s journey to defeat the “zoners” he released from the Phantom Zone. And, now he’s left with the final phantom: Bizarro.

“How do I stop someone with all of my powers and none of my weaknesses.”

Despite all of Clark’s powers, his “humanity” always get in the way of thinking clearly. Luckily, the Martian Manhunter is there to help guide Clark to defeating Bizarro. The phantom draws strength from Kryptonite, but he does have one weakness - Clark’s strength. The Sun. Clark lures Bizarro into the sunlight, weakening the phantom enough for the Martian Manhunter to capture the zoner. Now, Clark is firmly committed to following Jor-El’s path.

And, what of Lex? The aspiring criminal mastermind killed his estranged wife Lana Lang. At the end of season 6, the police were about to arrest him. But, just before they got the chance the dam broke. A mysterious woman rescues Lex from drowning, giving him a second chance on life. But, Lex takes this as a chance of redemption instead of escape. The Luthor turns himself into the police.

On a side note. Lana’s alive and living in China. Big surprise there? Not really. No one expected Lana to die. Chloe yes. Lana no.

Speaking of Chloe, what’s her deal anyway? When she spots a stabbed and near death Lois, she sacrifices her life to save the life of her cousin. Part of her meteor-freak power. Unfortunately, that sacrifice landed her in the morgue. Clark’s super-hearing kicks in and he pulls his friend out of her iron tomb.

Wait a second. Where’s Lionel Luthor. He was seen face down in the river bed. When some mysterious person with some seriously funky pants pulled him out? Usually, the writers over at Smallville like to leave little easter eggs like this around for comic fans to figure out the identity of the individual. Just like when the Martian Manhunter left a half-eaten Oreo cookie after defeating a phantom. A throwback to the Justice League International series where the Manhunter was obsessed with the treat. The Bag Man’s coming up empty on who this new individual be, but maybe someone out there can figure it out.

Possible Spoiler:
One last question remains. And, this may not really be a question. Who is the mysterious woman who saved Clark. At first everyone thought it was Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El. But, at the end of the Bizarro episode, the woman is seen donning bracelets reminiscent of Wonder Woman. Which got several fans thinking that if Wonder Woman’s finally coming to Smallville, all that’s left is Batman. Alas, it’s Kara. One, Kara has blond hair and the main versions of Wonder Woman, Diana and Donna Troy, were both brunettes. Second reason it’s Kara, well the next episode on Smallville is titled Kara. So, that answers that question.

Hopefully, Wonder Woman will make an appearance on Smallville. After all there is a 2009 movie adaption in the works. So, it would be a great way to build up momentum for the film. The bracelets may be another reference to the current comic book rendition of Supergirl who studied for a time with the Amazons. This is extremely likely since Kara was first seen underwater saving Lex, and in the comic book Kara’s ship was discovered underwater.

Well that’s it for now. Tune in next week for Smallville at 8pm on the CW.

My theory on who dragged Lionel Luthor off is one of the rejects of project Cadmus from the Superman comics. Just a thought.

That would be interesting. Seeing Amanda Waller rear her face would be cool, especially with the increased government involvement on the show. She was all over the JLA Unlimited Animated series on the Cartoon Network.

Maybe its a reference to Checkmate?
