You’d think that by spending an extra 10 bucks to buy the “limited” edition of Halo 3, you’d be getting a product handled with care. Not so.
There are widespread reports that the packaging that the Limited Edition of Halo 3 comes in are scratching the discs, sometimes to the point where they’re unplayable. In fact, the person in front of me in line today at Gamestop was quite distraught upon discovering the issue. There haven’t been any reports of problems with the regular version of the game ($59.99) or the Legendary Version ($129.99).
Microsoft has issued an official response stating that customers can fill out a form and get their discs replaced free of charge through the end of the year, which probably seems like a very small consolation at this point. Missing the launch of Halo is an unspeakable act for hardcore gamers. In fact, I happened to be the timely recipient of the Red Rings of Death problem with my Xbox 360 Premium console just a few days ago. I had to quickly scramble and pick up a new console in order to not miss the fun.
