It was pure excitement at Best Buy on 44th and 5th Ave. in NYC Monday night. Over a thousand enthused Halo fans lined the streets chanting: “MASTER CHIEF. MASTER CHIEF.”

Best Buy store reps egged enthused fans on. “What do we want? Halo! When do we want it? NOW!” Some fans were camped out as early as 8am.

But, Halo 3 wasn’t the only thing on people’s minds tonight. The folks over at Rockstar used the event as a prime opportunity to promote the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The title was originally slated to be released at the same time as Halo 3 to wage a head-to-head battle for sales.

We also got to watch “Red vs. Blue,” the popular fan made video series that has gained a large cult following.

The new release of Halo 3 is sweet and is sure to lure children and teens away from homework, workers away from their jobs, spouses away from their family obligations, and the Bag Man away from sleep.

Yea Yog, it’s lame that that they charge for the map packs. Always has been even when they did it back in the days of good-ol-halo-2. They make the maps free after a month, so really only the die hard fans pay.

Now that we’re in the days of I-wish-halo-3-was-halo-2 I can say yea, Halo 3 just doesn’t compare to Halo 2. The community isn’t the same. The maps are pretty terrible. You can’t get a good game of Objective, that’s if you get a game at all with all of 3-4000 players in the objective lobby.

Add that to the n00b quitters and Live’s recent down time, and it’s forced the Bag Man’s hand into pursuing alternate forms of entertainment - like reading books and the Nintendo Wii. Hey, Mario Galaxy is great. And i’m a fan. So that’s what I’m playing now.

But I haven’t boxed up the 360 just yet. I’m also playing Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4.

    SWEET!

Thanks for sharing the pix. Putting together a nice little collection. I took lots of photos and videos but most were crap. I was too distracted with interviews, bumping into contacts and friends, etc. It was a good time, even though I’m not a huge Halo fan.

Bags, you may find my latest article on WordPress interesting. It tackles some issues that have come up since the Halo 3 launch. Am I the only one that thinks it’s lame that they’re charging for the maps that should have come to begin with? Personally, I was very disappointed with Halo 3. It didn’t feel complete to begin with.

Oh well… Time to vent in my writing. Thanks again for the link! =oD

Personally, I don’t get what all the noise is about this game. my husband had me wait on line with him for 2 hours so he could be one of the first people to get it.
