A new season of Survivor is quite possibly the only thing to cure me of my intense Big Brother 8 withdrawal. Survivor China debuted tonight on CBS and it looks like it’s going to be another wild ride.
This time around it’s 16 Americans going through 39 days of tasks, alliances, and who knows what else. Of course the mix of people is very eclectic: a Christian radio talk show host, a chicken farmer, a female professional wrestler, a pro poker player, 4th grade school teacher and a waitress (to name a few).
Host Jeff Probst tells the contestants at the start that they can only go into the game with the clothes on their back, nothing else. The gamers are then split into their tribes (Zhan Hu tribe vs. Fei Long tribe) and given “The Art of War” for help during the game.
The team’s first night in their camps is plagued by a rainstorm, making sleep a difficult task. Arriving soon after the survivors wake up is a tree mail, alerting the teams to their first challenge. They will have to usher a long and heavy mascot through a maze. The first team to unlock a gate wins. The Fei Long tribe pulls out the victory and achieves immunity for the first task.
So Zhan Hu is left with the first elimination tribal council. They deliberate and the likely candidates are Chicken, The Chicken Farmer, who didn’t want to step up and do anything when the tribe was building their shelter. Ashley, the pro wrestler, is a candidate because she was sick and didn’t contribute much. Finally Peih-Gee, the jeweler, is up because she’s bossy and no one likes her much. The episode ends with Chicken being the first person voted off these season.
Who will stick around long enough to win the $1 million prize? Tune in on CBS at 8pm on Thursday’s to find out!
