I think you’d have to search long and hard for someone that didn’t think Britney Spears Video Music Awards performance wasn’t the trainwreck of the year. And Britney knows it too.
According to US Magazine, the popstar is contemplating an appearance at this weekend’s Emmy Awards in order to issue a public apology to her fans (she still has fans?). Her VMA performance was terrible to say the least: Her lip-synching would’ve make Milli Vanilla proud and it didn’t help that her dance moves were as if she was sore from an intense gym workout.
After the event, rumors of late-night partying the night before the show as well as problems with her hair-stylist and entertainment lawyer were fodder for the gossip crowd. Oh, and let’s not forget the endless chatter over whether or not the outfit she chose to wear was appropriate for her post-pregnancy (and slightly pudgy) body.
Obviously this bodes well for Fox, who is airing the Emmy Awards. Say what you want about Britney’s performance, but it sure has been one of the most talked about watercooler topics this week. MTV exploited Britney for ratings (according to Kanye West) and now it’s time for Fox to run the same strategy.
Oh Britney, when will you learn that you’ve done irreversible damage to your career? You should just lay low and focus on your album and let that bring you back some dignity.
