Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey Calls it Quits

By : September 10, 2007

Oprah Winfrey has decided it’s time to bow out of the talk show business. The show that began September 8, 1986, the same year that brought the New York Mets their last World Series championship, will come to end. When will the world, for many, finally come to a screeching halt?

2011. The year will also mark the 25th anniversary of the “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” A quarter century of talk. You have to commend her. She is one of the few talk show hosts to survive the 80s and early 90s with her integrity. Currently the richest woman in the world, though J.K. Rowling may soon trade blows for the title, Oprah outlasted many of her competing talk show hosts during her first decade of production. One of the only other talk show hosts to stand the test of time was Jerry Springer, who changed his approach to capture a different audience as the King of Sleez.

But, don’t think this gal is out of steam. “The Oprah Winfrey Show” opens its 21st season in New York on Sept. 10 at 4pm EST.
