That’s right. Stephen Colbert, star of the Colbert Report, will be auctioning off his left wrist on eBay.
Well, not his actual wrist, but the cast on his left wrist. Interestingly enough, as far as celebrities go, Stephen Colbert’s wrist cast might as well be its own entity these days. Colbert has made wrist discussion a focal point of every episode since the injury was reported. The political comic went as far as to create a WristStrong bracelet, parodying the LiveStrong athletic rubber wrist band. The only difference is WristStrong is orange, while LiveStrong is yellow.
To help push his new WristStrong rubber wrist band, Stephen Colbert has been giving the band out to audience members and celebrity friends for free, including CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric. There’s only one stipulation: anytime you meet someone more famous than yourself, you must immediately turn the band over to that person.
For those unfamiliar with the story behind Colbert’s now illustrious wrist cast. Here’s the quick back story. Stephen was running around his office before the taping of his June 27 show and broke his left wrist. The comedic star reported the incident on the July 26 airing of the Colbert Report.
The celebrity auction will open on eBay after Thursday night’s show. Colbert has gone all out for the auction. The cast will bear the signatures of White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, NBC news anchor Brian Williams, CBS news anchor Katie Couric, , Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, and NBC’s Tim Russert.
Proceeds will go to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund, the charity helps injured service members. The winner of the eBay auction will be announced on the Sept. 10 airing of the Colbert Report.
“If I had known that it would give me the opportunity to help our wounded veterans, I would have shattered my triquetrum a long time ago.” - Stephen Colbert
