JK Rowling, author of the now legendary Harry Potter series, reportedly has murder in her eyes and crime on her mind.

UK’s Sunday Times reported that the billion dollar author was spotted in an Edinburgh diligently working on her next big project - crime fiction. Ian Rankin, mastermind behind Detective Inspector John Rebus, said his wife spotted fellow author and neighbor Rowling scribbling away.

Rankin said, “My wife spotted her writing her Edinburgh criminal detective novel… It is great that she has not abandoned writing or Edinburgh cafes.” Rowling penned her first Harry Potter novel in Nicholson’s Cafe and the Elephant House, in Edinburgh.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Rowling had acknowledged that she didn’t think any future project would live up to the success of the Harry Potter series. The story of the Boy Who Lived is a global sensation with seven novels, five Harry Potter movies with two more in production, and a merchandising campaign that could make Pokemon and any major sports team jealous.

Rowling’s new direction into adult fiction is not surprising, the author adamantly stated that she didn’t want to be typecast as a children’s author.

On the JK Rowling website, the author shared, “I can take my time. And the idea of just wandering off to a cafe with a notebook and writing and seeing where that takes me for a while is just bliss.”
