In the spirit of sport spoof movies like Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Blades of Glory comes a new comedy about the underground world of Ping Pong. Balls of Fury, from the creators of Reno 911 and NBC Universal, seeks to close your summer movie-going experience with a laugh.
Down-and-out former professional Ping-Pong phenom Randy Daytona (Tony Award winner Dan Fogler) is sucked into this maelstrom when FBI Agent Rodriguez (George Lopez) recruits him for a secret mission. Randy is determined to bounce back and recapture his former glory, and to smoke out his father’s (Robert Patrick) killer – one of the FBI’s Most Wanted, arch-fiend Feng (Academy Award winner Christopher Walken).
NBC has released two new clips available exclusively through their Dotcomedy website.
In clip 1 (click here) Randy goes head-to-head with the Hammer. Like all good spoofs, the humor lies in how seriously the characters approach the story’s premise, which in this case is the sport of ping-pong. Watch as the Hammer prepares for the match and you’ll be sure to get a kick out of it.
Clip 2 (click here), the Lucky Cricket, shows Randy’s journey on the way to ping-pong mastery. The scene pokes fun at the old Kung-Fu movies you grew up on (well at least the movies the Bag Man grew up on).
Balls of Fury comes to theaters Wednesday August 29.
