MTV Networks, owners of Nickelodeon, The N, Noggin and GAS (Nick Games and Sports) channels, announced that they will be seperating the N and Noggin into two seperate channels.

Previously, The N and Noggin shared the same channel, targetting two seperate demographics. As of December 31, Noggin will become a 24 hour channel preschoolers without advertisements. The N will remain an ad-supported channel for tweens and teenagers.

Nick’s Games and Sports channel, GAS, formerly comprised of archived game shows from Nickelodeon, will now be moved to broadband on TurboNick. Unfortunately, a move like this will most likely lead to an end for the antiquated station. The GAS channel was more of a pit stop station than a station people looked to keep in their day-to-day tv lineup. Noggin will takeover the GAS channel after December 31 (check your tv guide for exact channel information).

President of Nickelodeon Cyma Zarghami said the N and Noggin did not “match in terms of brands that are on one channel,” which prompted the change. Zarghami hopes to segment the 2-11 crowd from the tweens and teenagers to better market content to the respective groups.

The move will also allow the two stations to grow in their own right. Primetime Noggin shows will focus on content for parents as well as preschoolers.
