What do you get when you cross The Lion King and the Planet Earth series? Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet from Discovery Channel.
Meerkat Manor now in it’s third season premiered this past friday on Animal Planet. It has all the makings of the class Disney animated movies you grew up with, except without the animation and script. Younger siblings who wander off into danger. A preditor in the form of an eagle. And an older sister, who dared to fight the odds and rescue her younger siblings. But, that’s not all.
There is also the story of Flower, the matriarch of this particular meerkat family. She has been searching for a new place for her family to call home. Against her better judgement, she sends her pups away to fend for this new territory against the Zappa clan, another rival group of meerkats.
The great thing about Meerkat Manor is the characterization of each meerkat family. Each clan of meerkats has a name. Each clan member has a distinct name and personality. You can call it reality tv for animals. But then again, Meerkat Manor is real, whereas reality tv of late tends to be scripted by producers in need of ratings and drama.
