Kat Von D LA Ink Episode 1The last we saw of Kat Von D, she had just quit (some will say got fired) from her post at Miami Ink after arguing with owner Ami. Things have changed and the gnarliest female tattoo artist is back and more fabulous than ever.

The premiere episode of her new TLC show LA Ink is all about Kat moving on from Miami, going through the trials of opening her Los Angeles Tattoo Parlor (aka High Voltage Tattoo), and rounding up a talented staff of artists. Kat manages to corral Corey Miller, Hannah Aitchison, Kim Saigh, and one of her good friends, Pixie. The first thing that comes to mind when seeing the new cast is that it’s the exact inverse of the staff at Miami Ink with 4 females and 1 male.

In ‘normal’ Kat Von D style, the design of her new shop is all about a rock-n-roll flavor (with a stripper pole in the middle of the shop as the cherry on top). She’s got a vision in mind that is matches her distinct style. A first time business owner, Kat also struggles with the progress on the construction of her new spot.

Not to be without its fair share of tattoos, the first episode has a number of awesome designs that all the artists dish out. With her shop under construction, Kat does a house visit with actor Eric Balfour (Fox’s 24 and HBO’s Six Feet Under). The show finishes strong with Kat giving a patron an amazing tattoo of downtown Los Angeles.

This season promises to be a better ink show than ever, chock full of celebrities and other guests that have engaging stories behind them. The backdrop of Hollywood and its tattoo culture will also provide an intriguing contrast to that of Miami.

First Episode of LA Ink on TLC

What did you guys think? Is the show better or worse than Miami Ink? Will this female dominated shop be the next great thing? Will Ami make an appearance at LA Ink this season? Make sure you stop by this time next week, we’ll be tracking Kat Von D and friends and would love to hear what you think! Leave a Comment!

    Kat,
I was real happy to see that you got your own show. The only think I can say to you that I think is important, make sure you always have time to listen to your new staff, as they are a huge part of your team. Take the advise from people that have good business practice and experience. Respect yout team and they will respect there leader to the end, always have an ear to listen….

Good Luck, and hope to travel from Halifax, NS Canada to get a Tattoo by you or one of the staff. depending on the style i choose.

    Respect,

    Michael McCRea

i can’t believe you’re making an issue out of this. You’re just jealous you don’t have your own show like kat. Her tattoos are great and she deserves the success she’s received

hmmm. maybe TLC aka The Learning Channel is advocating lessons in illicit activity?

I can’t believe she’s perpetuating the disgusting (and usually illegal) practice of house tattooing on national television. Cross contamination anyone?
