The 32nd Annual Toronto International Film Festival took an unexpected turn from the norm this year. Instead of ending with a mainstream film, the festical directors decided to go with a tearjerker drama.
The Toronto Film Festival runs from September 6-15 and will close with Emotional Arithmetic, a drama from Paolo Barzman about three Holocaust survivors seperated by the Nazis’ war. After 35 years, the trio reunites on a farm in Quebec.
Emotional Arithmetic stars Susan Sarandon and Christopher Plummer.
The Holocaust seems to be the name of the game this year in Toronto. Fugitive Pieces, another Holocaust film based in Canada, beat out Emotional Arithmetic to open the festival.
Festival co-drector Noah Cowan shared the following, “We are proud that the festival now opens and closes with vibrant and high-profile Canadian films… The inclusion of this powerful film reflects the robust nature of our industry.”

I don’t know how that’s going to be, but I’ll be there.
