Fox 24 Season 7 Jack Bauer Keifer SutherlandProduction on Season 7 of Fox’s 24 has been delayed for three weeks because writers had to scrap their original concept: shooting parts of Season 7 on-location in Africa.

Wow, now that’s a reboot.

It’s a widely held perception that Season 6 of the Fox megahit was the worst of the show’s tenure. Granted, it would’ve been hard to follow the explosive Season 5 with anything, but the show dramatically underperformed. There were countless dead-end storylines, recycled plot twists, and a disastrous main plotline shift about two-thirds of the way through the season. So, yes, the show is in desperate need of a reboot.

Back to the original story. Fox executives thought that the production budget was way too high and asked the show’s producers to find an LA location that could “serve” as Africa. Writers, knowing they have to come correct next season, decided that was the cheesy way out and totally scrapped the script.

I guess this is good news for fans. It shows that writers are looking to completely recharge the show and are committed to delivering a quality product to the fans willing to hang around for 24 more hours with Jack Bauer.

Africa would have been cool. Whatever they do, they need to take 24 out of LA. How many times can a 24 hour crisis happen in the same place? It just gets ridiculous.
