During the premier of the Transformers movie, head of Hasbro Brian Goldner was on hand with IESB to share a few tidbits about plans for the G.I. Joe live-action movie.
Looks like the initial script wasn’t strong enough to confirm on any decisive production date. So, it’s back to the drawing board. Goldern did say that fans can definately look forward to seeing all of their comic favorites like Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Destro and Cobra Commander. Also, expect an origin story behind the G.I. Joe and Cobra rivalry, that draws from core comic mythology. This has recently been the ideal way to start off any comic to film adaptation. An origin story gives existing fans a small taste of what they can expect from the production house, while acquainting newer audiences with the characters and storyline.
At the same time, it leaves fans with the feeling that “there’s so much more the writers could explore.” And, that means only one thing. Sequel. Both Spider-Man 2 and X2 took gigantic leaps above their breakout movies.
Goldner also hinted that fans may want to dig into the back issue crates and read some of the classic Joe issues from Marvel Comics legend Larry Hama. This news will no doubt thrill 80s fans of the original Joe series who were extremely dismayed by the 80s G.I. Joe cartoon. The cartoon featured a slapstick Cobra Commander, destined for failure, that hardly reflected the sadistic malevolant Commander fans read in Hama days.
Hopefully, this also means we can look forward to our old one-eyed friend Major Bludd putting a bullet into General Flagg’s back. Speaking of which, anyone wonder if Hawk paid off the good Major (who’s really a hired killer for Cobra), so that he’d get the promotion to General? General Flagg was the only person standing in his way. Hey, it could have happened.
Goldner also mentioned the possibility of a Magic the Gathering movie. With the huge following the card game had in the United States, it’s no wonder why Goldner would want to adapt the popular card game to film.

Magic the Gathering as a movie??? Terrible. most of those fantasy/sci-fi geek movies are just f’n terrible
Dude that would be freakin awesome if they opened up with Major Bludd pluggin Flagg in the back.
