At 10 pm Monday night, Police investigator Lt. Tommy Pope told the press that the death of WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and son Daniel were part of a double murder-suicide.
Benoit failed to appear on Saturday night’s live event in Beaumont, TX and WWE’s pay-per-view event Vengence. Friends of Benoit received several curious text messages on Sunday that prompted them to call Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering then alerted the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department to check on the Benoit family.
Fox-owned Atlanta tv station WAGA, said that authorities believed Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend then killed himself on Monday.
The bodies were received at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for autopsies on Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports, however, will not be available for two weeks.
According to WWE.com, The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has not made any further details available.
