Nay Sayers beware. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has shocked the box office by taking home the title this weekend for most ticket sales. Only two years after the original Fantastic Four movie, the sequel raised $58.1 million in its opening weekend.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer opened in nearly 4,000 theaters. Preliminary speculations suggest that the movie received an added boost in sales by garnishing the coveted PG rating as opposed to the PG-13 rating the original movie had.
Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Nancy Drew opened up in 7th place. The film opened in just over 2,600 locations, and brought in a paltry $6.8 million by comparison.
