DC Comics Teen Titans series will finally get their chance to shine on the big screen. Warner Bros. Pictures is planning on a live-action adaption of the teen hero series.
The Teen Titans recently received pop-support from Teen Titans Go!,the Cartoon Network’s animated adaption of the comic series. The series aired between 2003-2006.
The Teen Titans film will be produced by Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster through their Weed Road banner. Mark Verheiden has been brought on board to script the adaptation. Verheiden is no stranger to scifi or the comic world. He’s served as a writer-producer on Smallville and Battlestar Galactica, as well as He the feature films Timecop and The Mask.
Historically, most of the Titans’ characters have been younger version/protégés of the well known Justice League of America characters. The 1964 introduction of the Titans was more of a Junior Justice League of America. Kid Flash, Arsenal, Wonder Girl, Superboy, and Robin are all younger sidekick versions of their older counterparts Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman. The 1980s relaunch of the title introduced independant characters like Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven.
It is still unclear what villains the Teen Titans will have when it hits the big screen. Teen Titans Go! focused on the mercenary Slade, aka DeathStroke, who’s motivation to fight the Titans is that “kids shouldn’t wear costumes.”
Rumors say that Nightwing, the grown up version of the first Robin Dick Grayson, will make it to the big screen. The Bag Man just hopes that when the Teen Titans finally does make it to film, it isn’t overtly comical like the Cartoon Network’s adaptation. DC Comics should maintain the dark tone of recent films like Batman Begins.
What’s your thoughts on this latest Warner Bros. venture?
