The publicity continues for Marvel’s latest feature Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer with an all new trailer. Unfortunately, a niftily edited trailer, that couples amazing special effects and comedic one-liners, mostly revolving around Sue (aka Jessica Alba aka the Invisible Woman), has done little to bolster the hype for the second Fantastic Four feature.
The problem lies in the writing. The concept of a family of fantastic super-beings, all working out of the legendary Baxter Building, has always been intriguing. And, their powers are cool too. But, really, can a world-devouring Galactus and a faithful herald with a silver surfboard boost sales? Even the comic book series and cartoon renditions of the Fantastic Four story-line have always been only tepid at best. The personalities and dynamics are just not there. Reed constantly remains aloof to Sue’s feelings, always trapped in his scientific research, but she still loves him. While, the Thing (Ben) and the Human Torch (Johnny Storm) have a love-hate relationship reminiscent of Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison of the Odd Couple.
